Medicare Advantage Help in Union City

Medicare Advantage in Union City, NJ is a popular choice, and it is easy to see why. One card can cover hospital stays, office visits and, in most plans, prescriptions. Many plans also add routine extras that Original Medicare does not pay for.

But every plan has its own rules. The network, the drug list and the yearly costs can change from one plan to the next, and from one year to the next. That is why we look at your real doctors and medicines before we suggest anything.

How Part C Is Put Together

Medicare Advantage is also called Part C. Private insurance companies approved by Medicare run these plans. You remain a Medicare beneficiary the whole time, and the standard $202.90 monthly Part B charge for 2026 keeps coming out of your check or bank account.

The plan then takes over the job of paying your claims. It must cover everything Parts A and B cover. It can set its own copays, its own provider network and its own rules for approvals.

  • Most plans fold in Part D drug coverage, so you carry one card instead of two
  • A built-in annual ceiling protects you from runaway bills for covered services, something Parts A and B alone never give you
  • Many plans offer some routine dental, vision or hearing benefits, which you can read about on our dental, vision and hearing page

Check the Network Before Anything Else

Union City is small, about 1.3 square miles, but people here see doctors all over North Hudson and across the river. A plan that looks cheap is no bargain if your cardiologist is not in it.

So the first thing we do is list your doctors, specialists and the hospital you would want. We check Palisades Medical Center on River Road in North Bergen, plus any hospital you name. We also confirm your pharmacy, whether that is a family-run counter on Bergenline Avenue or prescriptions shipped by mail.

HMO plans usually need you to stay in network and get referrals. PPO plans give you room to step outside the network, at a higher price per visit. We explain the trade-off in plain words, in English or in Spanish.

What You Might Pay in 2026

A plan with a $0 monthly premium can still have costs. You may pay copays for visits, a share of the bill for scans and a set amount per hospital day. The plan's yearly out-of-pocket limit caps that spending for covered care.

For drugs, the 2026 rules cap your Part D out-of-pocket spending at $2,100 for the year. Insulin your plan covers is held to $35 or less per month. We line up your exact prescriptions so you can see the likely total, not just the premium.

If money is tight, ask us about help paying for Medicare. Programs like Extra Help and the state's savings programs can cut costs a great deal.

When You Can Join or Switch

Each autumn, from October 15 until December 7, you may sign up, swap plans or leave one, with the new choice kicking in January 1. People already in Part C get an extra window from New Year's Day through the last day of March to trade for another Advantage plan or return to Original Medicare.

Your very first Medicare sign-up is another chance to pick Part C. Some life events, like moving or losing other coverage, open a Special Enrollment Period. For those first-time deadlines, see our guide for new 65-year-olds.

Plans for Special Needs

Some Advantage plans are built for one group of people. Dual Eligible plans serve people who have both Medicare and Medicaid. Others serve people with certain long-term conditions, such as diabetes or heart failure.

If you have Medicaid in New Jersey, read our dual eligible plans page. These plans often coordinate both programs so you deal with fewer bills.

Is Medicare Advantage Right for You?

It may suit you if

  • Your doctors are all in the plan's network

Medicare Advantage Questions

Are Part C plans and Medigap policies alike?

No. Medicare Advantage replaces how Original Medicare pays your claims. A Medigap policy works alongside Original Medicare. Having both together is not allowed.

Will I lose my Medicare if I join a Part C plan?

No. You keep your Medicare rights and protections. You also keep paying your Part B premium unless a savings program pays it for you.

What about specialists across the river in Manhattan?

That varies. Some networks include Manhattan hospitals and some do not. We check each doctor by name before you choose.

Can my daughter join the call?

Yes. Family members are welcome with your permission, and we can hold the whole review in Spanish.

What does your help cost?

Nothing at all. The insurer pays our commission if you sign up, so your monthly price does not change because you used us.
